Using a 40 Bit Key to connect to a wireless router protected by a 64 Bit WEP key

I just ran into a curious problem.  My wireless router is configured with a 64-bit WEP key.  However, my laptop’s Intel AnyPoint Wireless Configuration Wizard only accepts either a 40 bit (5 char) key or a 104 bit key.   Since my wireless router’s configuration webpage automatically generates a 10-char key from a secret password I chose, how can a 10-char key fit into a 40-bit key field?

This didn’t seem to jibe.  I experimented- and plugged in the right-most 5 chars of the generated 10-char key.  This worked!
Hope this tip helps someone else using the Intel Anypoint Wireless adapter card’s 40-bit WEP encryption config.
